Pastimes and fun along the Chuckatuck Creek and the Nansemond River revolved around the water. Swimming, fishing, boat picnics, were a big part of summer fun. Hiking, hunting, and sports were year round activities. Families and neighbors made their own fun before the age of television and mass communication. It was like this for most coastal villages anywhere.
