Many of our stories and photographs were collected in 2006 as Suffolk River Heritage members interviewed local residents for our first book: The River Binds Us. Some of our folks have passed away…but we have their stories. The River Binds Us can be read on-line in total on this website, but here is a snippet of “our people.”

Roland Anderton (Del Carson)

Roland Anderton grew up at the top of “Devils Gorge” in what later would become the Newman House. In the early 1950s, He Charles Gray Adams, and Bingo Carson collaborated on writing their memories of growing up in Crittenden and Eclipse beginning in the early 20th century. We owe much of what we know of the early days from their research.
